Chapter 6: Atmospheric

Atmosphere was written while wandering the deserts of California and Arizona. Running away. Sleeping under stars. Making photos. Writing. Getting lost on bottomless, dusty backroads. Moving towards something I can never reach.

howling at the moon
screaming for the sun
laughing at the fright_

the mojave desert
brutal and beautiful
hot and cold
alive and dead
my state of suspension
like swimming between two boats
the only release being dreams, imagination, memories
a voluntary exile_

a taped up heart…a gypsy soul…a dopamine mind…this is what i find

a pink pay phone
middle of the mojave
no other signal
no electronic map to the nearest scene
no cheap dopamine
it’s here to save lives
to ferry lost souls to the other side
it won’t call your friend, lover, savior or foe
all it has to offer is a poem
words for emergency use only_

friend or foe…i’m bleeding for love…i’m keeping the score…all i want is more

if you wait
under a white hot sun
if you listen
through the pelting wind
if you breathe in
breathe out
the sands of these desert dunes
will sing you a song about
time not being on our side_

time’s not on my side…so i’m sleeping with sedona tonight

i howl at the moon…i laugh at the fright…i scream for the sun…will i be alright?
